Let’s tackle Kyle Turris (okay maybe not tackle, he might break in half. How bout we smack him lightly upside the head?) – what will happen now that we’ve signed him? Your guess is as good as mine and apparently GMDM wasn’t losing any sleep over the kid with statements like:
” We’re open-minded we’d like to have Kyle back. We wish he was here today. But we’re going to move forward and not going to think about him again until some point before I’m a hundred” ~GMDM
“We have no intention of trading him, whatsoever,” Maloney said. (Hasn’t stopped the rumor mongerers from talking about TOR kicking the tires on the kid though) “We think he’s a young, talented player but he’s still developing. Once you are a proven 30- (to) 40-goal, 80-point guy yes, you can get the brass ring … but that’s what makes America great, he doesn’t have to settle (for less). He can stay at home and watch ‘Oprah.’” ~ GMDM
What was KT thinking? I really don’t know because even if the numbers he was asking for are greatly exaggerated at between $3-4 million a season – for either two or three years, more than 1M and change would be about the max KT has seriously earned at this point in his career.
I adore the kid. Sweet natured and hard working as he is, this move was a surprise on a lot of levels. Only thing that made sense is that he has horrible advisers and a horrifically inflated opinion of himself, had not paid enough attention to GMDM’s previous negotiations or just wants the hell out of Phoenix. Either way, he ended up sitting around playing Xbox and wishing he was playing the real deal… then apparently he woke up.
Now I don’t know about you but with GMDM suddenly on TV saying things like, “Kyle is a top, young player who will make us a better team.” and one of my favorites, “We look forward to having him in our lineup so he can contribute to our team.”, my spidey senses went on high alert. I have a real good feeling that the blue light special went on somewhere in the NHL and Kyle Turris will play no small part in getting that deal done.
Can anyone remember the last time Don Maloney came out on the short end of a deal? Not the short term… the long view because even Olli Jokinen turned into good things eventually. You think that’s mean? Just go along with me to revisit the severity of the comments, the length of the hold out and then the sudden turn about in the press with the praise… do you really think there will be any kind of peace in this organization until GMDM gets his pound of flesh? He’s married to a Sicilian, some of the traditional attitude has probably rubbed off dontcha think? There isn’t a whole lot of forgive or forget in Maloney’s makeup that I can see.
There will either be a whole lot of showcasing in these next 10 games or a whole lot of sitting to protect his little ass-et and then that blue light I was talkin about earlier will whir up and some poor GM will fall victim to Don Maloney’s bouncing yellow ball deal. *Move over Wal-Mart, there’s a new lowest price leader in town*
I think I will call Vegas and see what the over and under would be for Kyle Turris getting traded within the next 45 days then go check the couch cushions for some betting change.
Just sayin…
